Favicon (pronounced fav-eye-con) is short for 'Favorites Icon.' A Favicon is a multi-resolution image included on nearly all professional developed sites. Within Internet Explorer the Favicon is displayed on the Address line and in the Favorites menu and can be clearly seen in Firefox bookmark. The Favicon allows the webmaster to further promote their site, and to create a more customized appearance within a visitor's browser. Very often, the Favicon reflects the look and feel of the blog or a representation of a company logo.
Actually there are a lot of resources online showing how to add Favicon but I thought of sharing my own method specifically for Blogger blogs which I used to set it up for mine.
To start off, you will need a graphic editing software such as Adobe Photoshop but if you don't, then download these wonderful free editors from Download.com:
1] IconEdit2
2] IrfanView
3] Paint.NET (download ICO plugin HERE)
If you do happen to have Photoshop, you might need to install the ICO Format Plugin which can be found here at Telegraphics.com.
If in the case you do not have a graphic editor or would prefer a very basic and simple way to make a Favicon, then visit DeGraeve.com for an online Favicon creator and editor.
Creating Your Favicon
The basic size to use is 16 x 16 pixel which is quite small to incorporate any creative ideas into it. Best way is to start with a larger square canvas to design and edit from before changing it it the required size. When you're done, make sure to save it in '.ico' format. If you are short of ideas, you can always browse through thousands of free favicons provided by Favicons R Us which you can edit it to your own taste as well.
Installing Your Favicon
Register a free account with Google Page Creator and upload your newly made Favicon as can be seen on the left image.
Then go login to your Blogger account, click on Edit Html in the Template tab and add in the following codes right after the <head> code:
<link href='http://youraccount.googlepages.com/favicon.ico' rel='shortcut icon'/>
<link href='http://youraccount.googlepages.com/favicon.ico' rel='icon'/>
Then save your template and view your blog. Usually it does not appear the very first time so just refresh it once and it should appear. Be creative and have fun!

Things to Avoid During Blog Setup |
As I've been finding ways to improve on my search engine visibility and ranking, I learnt quite a few crucial tips when it comes to blog setup. Sad to say some of these mistakes have been implemented on this beloved blog of mine but for me its kinda late to revamp due to the complexity of the new Blogger Beta. I'm finding ways around this since I am sticking to my template although it will require a lot of effort to make it work.Here are some pointers to take note of which I will elaborate further below:
1] Try not to use 3-column template.
2] During first month of launching your blog, do not include graphical ads like banners.
3] Use as much HTML codings as possible and less Javascript codings.
4] Use text navigation and labeling.
5] Choose the right Title for your blog to emphasize on your targeted keywords.
6] Change the order of individual page Title display.
7] Use Webmaster Tools offered by Google and Yahoo.
The main objective is to enable the Search Engine crawlers to view your blog cleanly and thus enhances your listing especially during the early stages. Point 1 to 3 above basically optimizes this particular purpose since search engines loves new content. By allocating a small area on your blog for postings will put your blog at a disadvantage as there's a high chance the crawlers would presume your page have not changed even with new postings made.
If you would like to beautify your blog with graphical button navigation (example my gaming blog: WOW Tips) then ensure that a text sitemap link of your blog is visible and accessible to crawlers. This would ensure all the pages / postings are crawled and indexed by the search engines. As you can see from my gaming blog that I've added a 3rd text button called 'View Site Feed' as a solution for this.
Since your blog Title is used also as the title to your listing in the search engine results and act as a HUGE contributor to your keyword relevancy, it is crucial to set it right the first time. In regards to changing the title display, I have posted earlier a guide on how this is done entitled 'SEO - Changing Title Display'.
Last but not least, use Google Sitemap and Yahoo SiteExplorer to ensure your blog is listed and make the necessary adjustments after viewing the index reports for areas which require improvements.

Add Adsense in New Blogger Beta Post |
I received 2 emails recently asking how I managed to place Google Adsense after each post using the new Blogger Beta platform.Well here is what you should do:
Go to Beta Blogger template page, click on 'Edit HTML' tab and tick the checkbox of 'Expand Widget Templates'. Look for the following lines of Beta Blogger template HTML code usually found somewhere after the half-way mark of the entire codings:
<div class='post-body' expr:id='"post-" + data:post.id'>
<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "item"'>
<data:post.body/>
Then place your Google Adsense code after: <data:post.body/>
Now after doing so, the problem you'll faced is that Blogger will not accept the codes thus unable to save changes made or the Adsense ad will not appear correctly or at all when checking on your blog. The issue is with the following Adsense codes:
There are 2 solutions to this, which is either to remove those 2 codes completely or manipulate the codes. Removal would be totally against Google Adsense TOS so that leaves manipulation as the only obvious choice.
So here are the solutions:
1] Replace <!-- with <!--
2] Replace //--> with //-->
Now upon viewing the source codes of your blog from the browser (right click on mouse and select 'View Source in Explorer' or 'View Page Source in Firefox'), you will notice that the Adsense codes will appear exactly as it should be thus problem solved.
The blog which I learnt this from is BloggerDigest and the originator who started whole thing which we're all very thankful for is by Louiss from BloggingSecret.
On this note I would highly recommend those of you who like myself manages several other blogs to use the Channels feature in Google Adsense to track click-through performance and hits on each ad placement or blog.

Boost Your Blog Traffic and Rank with the Z-List Concept |
I read about this amazing concept of link exchange feature to help propel the lesser connected blogs and drive visitors. Since this week I'm SEO focused, this couldn't have come at a better timing. I was pleasantly surprised to find my blog being included in Trotas' Make Money On the Net blog which he in turn obtained from Dosh Dosh's blog. So here I am making mine and in hope some of you will carry on with this Z-list.So what exactly is the Z-list?
The Z-list was created by Mack Collier from The Viral Garden blog and is intended to help small blogs to build links traffic and obtain better rankings. The main idea behind this is geared towards sharing of links with an open heart and not expecting anything in return (but you will as there are lots of good hearted bloggers out there). From the list below you can see that not only business and marketing blogs are listed but also technology and art related blogs among others thus you can suggest as well blogs which are not in the same topic as your own but love reading.
How will it benefit my Blog?
+ New incoming links from other blogs
+ Increase Technorati ranking
+ Open your blog to a new pool of readers and possible subscribers
+ Increase chance to gain higher Google pagerank
+ Discovering new and interesting Blogs
+ Make new friends and network
+ Lots of appreciative bloggers
How to participate?
1. Create a new post on your blog.
2. Copy and Paste the entire list of blog links below
3. Add any blogs that you want to include near the top of the list. (This isn’t compulsory, so you can either add as many blogs as you want or none at all.)
4. Include the blog where you first got the list from, on the list in your post.
5. Do not include your own blog links on the list in your post.
6. Make sure that all links point to each blog’s homepage.
7. Publish the Post.
Please note that you can also participate in this Z-list even though your blog is not listed below. You may also feature the entire list or just list the blogs I added and include mine in your post. Do take note of the "Honor Rule" Mack suggested that bloggers should not include their blogs on the list to ensures that the list isn’t manipulated for self-promotion.
I have also made the follow-up for those interested to participate in the Z-list concept easier by downloading my list in text format and adding yours at the very top after the 'blog of origin': DOWNLOAD

SEO - Changing Title Display |
As I am focusing on SEO this week, I found a very important element which will greatly help in the possibility of obtaining higher positions in search results. This is done by simply changing your Blog Title display and thus effecting the search result title of your blog pages as Search Engines prioritize this when someone searches for a certain keyword.
Blogger Classic Template
Replace the following code:
<title><$BlogPageTitle$></title>
With the following new code:
<title>
<MainOrArchivePage><$BlogTitle$></MainOrArchivePage>
<ItemPage><Blogger><$BlogItemTitle$></Blogger> - <$BlogTitle$></ItemPage>
</title>
New Blogger Beta Template
This blog is using Blogger Beta template and in order to do this it gets slightly more complicated. I managed to do it from the help of the following blog article:
